After the Lotus series.....
« on: October 25, 2015, 02:33:47 pm »
It's a few months away but it's good to discuss it now.  What do we race after the Lotus series?

-AC or another sim?

-Tracks
      -format?

-Cars
      -modern?
      -historic?
-single make or multi-car (single class)?

I like this format, I'd like to move on to pCars if everyone is on board, otherwise I'll stick with AC.  There are some good modded tracks coming out, we have a lot to pick from.  I want to use my clutch and shifter!  Let's pick a car that does not have flappy paddles or sequential, let's go back in time a few years.

Well for me the choice is only between AC of rF2. I dont own PCars and have no intention of purchasing it. That's not to say that the group can't move to PCars, I simply won't be making the move. I also think we could probably run multiple sims anyways.

As far as the next car used; I have been having fun with the Eve and Spark in rF2 on Durge's server. The car is a handful but not overly difficult to drive. Maybe we take a classic series from that era and pick out 5 tracks run in their real life series, recreate the series in mini. It could probably be done in either rF2 or AC.

I like that idea, but in AC.  We'd have to find an appropriate car for it.  But I did like the Spark and Eve in rF2

I will also stick to AC and rf2. Is there any good historic content to AC? Don't remember too many historic tracks or cars. I would assume historic stuff is more popular among rf2 players than with AC players.

The Lotus Type 49 is the classic open wheeler in AC that is similar to the Eve and Spark in rF2.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/classic-team-lotus-type-49/

The 1967 Gran Prix season had 11 races on 11 different tracks. They are in order:

Kyalami
Monaco
Zandvoort
Spa-Francorchamps
Le Mans (Bugatti Circuit)
Nurburgring
Mosport Park
Monza
Watkins Glen
Magdelena Mixhuca

We can pick the top 4-5 tracks to use for the series. If possible the classic tracks would be fantastic. I only know of the classic 1966 Monza track as stock in AC so the rest of the classic version tracks would have to be modded material. Otherwise we can use the modern equivalents in AC.

I looked over at Race department and found a 1988 version of Monaco. It has not been tested yet but has been getting good reviews.

The Lotus 49 is a LOT of car to start off with for open wheelers!  I don't know if a full 11 races would work, but we could race the ones we could find and mix in the modern equivalents like Chad said

-Some version of Monaco
-Zandy modern
-Spa modern or an historic if they have it
-Nurbs modern
-Monza 66
-The Glen

One major thing I like in AC over rF2 is that they force you to use the h-shifter and there's a penalty if you use flappy paddles.  One prob with rF2 is that there's a penalty for a h-shifter (the h-shifter....) so usually people use paddles because there is only the advantage of perfect quick shifts every time and NO downside at all.  Plus in rF2 the clutch is a joke, in AC you have to use it.

I like where this is going!  Finally a car that takes skill to operate, more than just racing lines and race craft.

Well on Durges server he does not allow ANY assists. If you don't heel toe, or at least lift properly you will spin. It made for a very interesting race at Bathurst. I suspect that the same will be true in AC. It should be a good series to get people to work on their clutch work.

The Lotus 49 is a nice car. With all aids turned off for realism IMO.
Not sure if a considerably more difficult car like that is good for 40 min of (close) racing.
Only one way to find out I guess..

TBH I never even tried out every car in AC yet.
Whatever it's going to be I hope it's not a car that gives a (huge) penalty to drivers that have no clutch pedal. (DFGT here)
Like the Nissan GT3 for instance. Participating in qualifying with that car is almost pointless when 100% certain I wont be in the top 6 first corner.
Or worse when on a longer straight.

Perhaps we could experiment a little with different combinations at certain times?

I bought P-cars yesterday, for less than half the steam price.
Fun game. But no AC or rF2 beater to me.
Nor were the graphics much better than AC as I had read.
Different,   not (obviously) better looking as I expected, but the tarmac perhaps, and some more variety with spectators and such.
(Both games run with all on max but shadows and  reflex update. Max SMAA instead of FXAA)

Still I would love to race the Karts in P-cars with some of you one day

I hate heel-and-toe so not sure what to think. I have tried it in the past but it has always ended for not having enough energy or time to learn it. So for that reason, I'm not sure if I would participate in your **** season.

What do you guys think of this?

12 races in your 2016 career.

-First 4 are with the Mak-Corp IFS3 http://mak-corp.com.au/index.php/component/k2/item/65-ifs3-08-v0-62-for-ac

-Progress to the next 4 races with the Lotus Exos http://www.assettocorsa.net/lotus-exos-t125/
the 4th race would be with the S1 upgrade

-Then finish your career with 4 races in the retro Lotus 49.

Each car would be a mini-season and would have a champ.  There would be a champ overall also (like we did the points series last year)

Personally, I have no interest in driving (much less racing) a modern open wheel car.
The Lotus 49 I would participate.

I like the idea of career type mini-championship. Not sure about those cars. I guess DLC cars are not an option? F3 would be cool imo but maybe we try to find an option that we all agree...

DLC would not be an option for me as I chose not to purchase the DLC content. Maybe I've been spoiled by rF and rF2, but buying DLC for a moddable game seems wrong. Of course the counter argument is that I payed for the URD mod in rF2. And it would be a valid point. However, I found nothing in the current DLC packs (1 or 2) that was compelling enough to spend my hard earned and often unavailable money on.

Instead of the Mak Corp F3, the Taatus Formula Abarth.  It's a low power open wheeler that is stock content.

Peugeot 504 on a series of shorter tracks.  The car is hard to drive fast while easy to drive slow.  Most smiles per MPH in the game.  (Except my modified R8 Gordini  ;D )  also the Porsche 550 speedster would be a great old car to race.
