Week 13 is upon us
« on: June 08, 2015, 03:16:48 pm »
For those of you who are in iracing you will undoubtedly know that week 13 is coming (Starting later today in fact). This is the second week 13 I have been involved in. I didnt understand the significance of week 13 the first time around and didnt try harder to get my irating up in time for the beginning of the next season.

For those of you who dont know what week 13 is, here it is in a nutshell:

weeks 1-12 of a season compose the main races. It is not unlike any of our regular rF2 seasons, except it is 12 weeks and races long. During those weeks you earn or lose irating and safety rating. The more irating you get the better chance of earning the next license (Rookie, D, C, B, A, Pro). Week 13 is a "free week" that is not scheduled for many of the regular series. iracing hosts races for the lower licensed classes so racers can get that final push to their next license. At the end of the season those who have earned enough irating will earn their next license. Those who dont have to wait for the end of next season or get a fast track with a ton of irating.

I have some minor work to do on my oval license to get my C license. I have enough irating to get my b license in road courses.

Some of the included Races are a figure 8, Mall derby, and other themed race series.

Here is the writeup from iracing.

Quote
Week 13 happens.  So even as the multi-season series including the NASCAR iRacing Series (Open and Fixed) and Road Warriors (Canadian Ruf Cup) continue without missing a beat, iRacers can take advantage of a plethora of week-long official and unofficial series.

The official series offer a final chance for iRacers from Rookie to Class B to climb to the next rung on the license ladder in time for Season 3; not to mention an opportunity for iRacers of all stripes and license levels to have enjoy some iRating- and Safety Rating-free sim racing.

iRacers can advance to the next license level in several official road and oval series. The Street Stock Oval Series features 30 lap races at Charlotte (Legends), Lanier, Oxford Plains, South Boston and Thompson International Speedway.  The SRF Challenge consists of 20 lap races in the SpecRacer Ford at Charlotte (road), Lime Rock, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Okayama (short and long) and Summit Point Raceway (full course and Jefferson reverse), while the Week 13 Gymkana has the Ruf RWD doing single lap qualifying runs every 5 minutes at Oran Park (North A)

Safety Ratings and iRatings are in effect in both of these official series, offering competitors the opportunity to boost their license ratings before promotions for Season 2 are finalized at week’s end. Likewise, rookies who have yet to complete the category-specific minimum participation requirements for graduation to a D license (two official races or four time trials in each category) can do so.

The week’s unofficial competition features the Carburetor Cup at Talladega Superspeedway with the Gen6 Chevy SS, Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry, along with four more oval and three additional road course series.

In honor of the soon-to-be demolished Irwindale Speedway, the Outlet Mall Derby will feature Super Late Model, Late Model, SK, Street Stock, and Legends at Irwindale, while the SK Mods will also use the track’s Figure 8 layout for the Figure Great series.

Fortunately, Charlotte Motor Speedway is here to stay, and will be the site of our Identity Crisis series – 35 lap night races featuring NASCAR Camping World Trucks and NASCAR Sprint Cup cars, the latter carrying a weight and fuel penalties which will require pit stops to ensure a fight to the finish between the cars and trucks.

And once the new build is released, the Super Late Models will christen Five Flags Speedway with the Blizzard Series.  So what if it’s June?

On the road side – and just down the virtual road from Irwindale – the Deutsche Drifters will see the Ruf RWD and AWD in action on Auto Club Speedway’s Interior course, while the Tube Frame Twister Series features the Super Late Model and Late Model at Donington, Charlotte road and Watkins Glen Cup.

And yet there’s more!  Once the new build is released, the GT1 World Challenge will pit the Corvette against the brand spanking-new Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 at Spa, the Auto Club Speedway and Homestead R-Ovals, Interlagos, Mosport, Okayama and Monza.

This should be a fun week. I'm looking forward to it.
